Instead, he is removing the toilet humor- make that almost ALL the humor- from his new books. The Dog Man series used to be Dav Pilkey used to make me laugh so hard I would almost wet my pants. This one in particular is an outright clone of the second book, but instead it's the FLEAS (not Flippy) masquerading as Dog Man (not Petey). Dog Man started out funny, but then started getting more and more serious as the series went along, until finally we end up with recurring villains and NO PLOTLINE. I've now read all six books and can't wait for the next one. Ah, but then I tried Dog Man by the same author as The Adventures of Captain Underpants and I have to say I love this series. What's not to love? One was enough for me though. Next I tried The Adventures of Captain Underpants and it definitely makes sense why so many boys like these books. Yeah okay, kinda funny, but not really my jam, but I understand why this is a popular series. So, I read The Bad Guys: Episode 1 and also The Bad Guys: Episode 2: Mission Unpluckable. They aren't books that I would normally choose when I read middle grade books, and I read a lot of them. Why? Well, because in every 3rd-5th grade classroom I'm in, more than half of the students have one or more of these books on their desk. But his friends Lil’ Petey, Sarah and Chief all know it’s not true. ‘Brawl of the Wild’ inspired by ‘Call if the Wild’ is about Dogman being framed for robbing a costume shop and a bank. But then George and Harold start reading classics in their 5th grade class and the next several books are inspired by those books. At the beginning we were just reading about Dogman and his nemesis Petey the cat.
